"Over her tenure with us she fast became a valued part of that class (both for the children and their parents alike) as well as for the faculty! Ms. McClafferty never missed a beat in her execution of a lively happy educational haven for four year olds!"

Hello, my name is Ms. McClafferty! Teaching has been my dream job since I was very young. I grew up on Long Island and graduated from St. Joseph’s College with a dual certification in both general and special education. In the future I plan to pursue my dreams of completing my doctorate and teaching a Master's course at SJC.

My philosophy of education is based off of John Dewey's Learning By Doing Theory. I believe children are natural learners. A strong understanding of content occurs when students are given the opportunity to interact with information in a hands on setting. I foster educational curiosity by encouraging students to take risks while exploring new information. As a teacher, I hope to create a learning environment where students feel supported. The goal for our year is to develop a life long love for learning while further developing our strengths.

I have two dogs named Lola and Pani. My favorite types of jokes are punny ones, and I love to be outside in nature!

Experience

Over time I gained valuable experience teaching all grade levels including Pre-K through Fifth grade. Along with these general education settings, I have taught several students with exceptionalities. During the summer I taught the nature based classroom for the Laurel Hill Summer Camp.

Outdoor Classroom

Over the summer I taught the nature program through the outdoor classroom at Laurel Hill. During this time students learned life skills such as farming, caring for animals and engineering. Below features one of our favorite activities during STEM week. We built solar powered ovens using card board boxes, tape and tin foil to roast marshmallows! YUM!
